Tasting Notes

Another classic of Charis Reserve. This vintage is remarkably elegant, offering vibrant aromas of ripe black fruit followed by an initial bouquet of cedar, rosemary and green tea completed by earthy elements such as flint and dried shells. As the wine opens up, hints of baking spice and vanilla are revealed. The mouth feel is delightfully round and creamy with fine-grained tannins, leading to an enduring finish with touches of dark chocolate and blak pepper. This broad and round texture has enough grip to stand up well to a hearty meal.

Vineyard

The winter rain came late in Northern California in 2016; however, they were almost double the volume of the previous year, which made the soil condition ideal for vine growth through the spring. Although there was a temporary heat spike before harvest, the vines and fruit came through beautifully. Most of the grapes are picked when it is completely ripped and gives its intense color. The grapes were entirely grown in Rutherford, Napa Valley and harvested by hand at night in October, 2016.
